Kolkata Police Bars TMC July 21 Martyrs' Day Rally at Dharmatala
Kolkata Police has denied permission Trinamool Congress permission to observe Martyrs Day on July 21 in the spot where it has been held for the last 33 years.
Kolkata Police imposed prohibitory orders ahead of TMC's rally, which is held at Dharmatala, infront of Victoria House.
Mamata Banerjee has observed the day from the venue but Kolkata Police has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, restricting public gatherings, rallies, meetings, and demonstrations across parts of central Kolkata, including the Esplanade area.
Lalbazar officials on Tuesday informed rival factions of the TMC that no political gatherings blocking roads will be allowed at Dharmatala due to heavy traffic and public inconvenience concerns.
Restrictions will be in effect from July 2 to August 30, 2026 and will cover jurisdictions under Bowbazar PS, Hare Street PS, and the Headquarters Traffic Guard.No Assemblies: Public gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations are prohibited on the stretch from KC Das Crossing up to Victoria House (CESC headquarters), excluding Bentinck Street.
