Mamata Banerjee Pitches Maa-Mati-Manush Model in Purulia, Targets BJP Governance

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee on Sunday addressed a massive janasabha in Manbazar, declaring that Purulia is no longer a district defined by fear but one transformed through people-centric governance under the Maa-Mati-Manush government.

Highlighting a series of development initiatives across the Jangalmahal region, the West Bengal Chief Minister presented a comprehensive report card of progress aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and cultural identity.

Among the key announcements and achievements:

Formal establishment of the Manbazar Sub-division along with the development of a dedicated tourism circuit to boost regional economy.

Construction of a “Bhasha Soudha” in Puncha Block as a tribute to the historic language movement.

Establishment of the Sitaram Mahato Memorial College in Puncha Block, expanding access to higher education.

Operationalisation of Special Newborn Care Units (SNCU) and fair-price medicine shops across Puncha and Hura Blocks, strengthening healthcare delivery.

Completion of a ₹23-crore drinking water project in Hura Block, addressing a long-standing crisis affecting thousands of families.

Mamata Banerjee emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and welfare-driven governance, earning “deep and abiding admiration” among the people of Jangalmahal.

However, the rally also saw sharp political attacks. Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Banerjee alleged that BJP-ruled states impose restrictions on food choices and foster divisive politics.

She stated, “Fish is not eaten in BJP-ruled states. If BJP comes, you won’t be able to eat meat or eggs. BJP is one-sided, they don’t believe in any religion. These people incite riots and come to power by creating unrest.”

The Chief Minister further accused BJP-led states of higher instances of attacks on tribals and women, while asserting that her government promotes harmony and inclusivity.

The rally in Purulia is seen as a significant political outreach effort ahead of upcoming elections, with the Trinamool Congress aiming to consolidate its support base in the tribal-dominated Jangalmahal region.
