Mamata Banerjee SIR List: Calls for Scrapping, Voter Rights

Mamata Banerjee SIR List remarks have intensified the political debate over the ongoing electoral roll revision and voter rights in West Bengal. Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticised the process and demanded that the current SIR list be scrapped.

Speaking on the issue, Mamata Banerjee said that her party's movement would continue until what she described as the responsible authority leaves office.

She also demanded action against those she alleged were responsible for disenfranchising voters.

Mamata Banerjee Demands Scrapping of SIR List

The Mamata Banerjee SIR List controversy centres on her demand that the current electoral roll prepared through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process be withdrawn.

Mamata Banerjee said the election should instead be conducted using the previous voter list. She also alleged that names had been removed from the electoral roll against the wishes of voters and demanded compensation for those affected.

According to her remarks, restoring voting rights and ensuring that eligible voters remain on the electoral roll should be a priority.

‘Those Who Are Guilty Must Be Arrested’

Mamata Banerjee also called for arrests of those she alleged were responsible for actions against voters.
She said, “Those who are guilty must be arrested,” while accusing the authorities of attempting to disenfranchise voters and manipulate the electoral process.

Her comments add to the political confrontation surrounding the electoral roll revision in West Bengal, with questions over voter inclusion, deletion of names and the procedures followed during the revision process.

Mamata Banerjee Says Movement Will Continue

Addressing her supporters, Mamata Banerjee said the political movement would not stop until her demands were addressed.

She specifically said that the movement would continue until “Vanish Kumar (Gyanesh Kumar) must go.” Her statement was directed at Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, amid the ongoing political dispute over the SIR process.

The remarks indicate that the issue of the electoral roll is likely to remain a major political point of discussion in West Bengal.

‘You Have Taken Bengal; We Will Take Delhi’

Mamata Banerjee also used the issue to make a broader political statement, saying, “You have taken Bengal; we will take Delhi.”
