PM Modi Unveils New India-Indonesia Partnership Vision
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday declared that India and Indonesia have entered a "golden chapter" in their bilateral relationship, announcing a series of landmark agreements aimed at expanding cooperation across defence, technology, healthcare, education, trade and maritime security.
Addressing a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto after bilateral talks in Jakarta, Modi said the strengthened partnership would have a lasting impact not only on the two countries but also on the 21st-century global order.

"Today marks the beginning of a golden chapter in the India-Indonesia partnership, and this golden chapter will have a profound positive impact on the world of the 21st century," the Prime Minister said.
The two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation in defence exchanges, disaster management, maritime safety and security, and industrial collaboration. Both countries will also enhance cooperation in the blue economy, port development and maritime trade, reflecting their shared maritime interests in the Indian Ocean.
In the healthcare sector, Modi announced that India and Indonesia will strengthen collaboration to improve access to affordable, high-quality medicines. India will also support the training and capacity building of Indonesian doctors and healthcare professionals.
Highlighting the importance of technology and innovation, Modi said both countries had signed major agreements covering artificial intelligence, telecommunications, digital public infrastructure and startup collaboration. He also announced that the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore will establish a campus in Indonesia, providing educational opportunities for students across the ASEAN region.
The Prime Minister added that both nations will expand cooperation in space through joint research, technology sharing and capacity building.
To enhance economic resilience, India and Indonesia also agreed to strengthen supply chains in critical minerals, stainless steel and rare-earth magnets, while promoting closer industrial partnerships.
In a significant step towards financial connectivity, Modi announced that India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will be integrated with Indonesia's payment system, making business transactions and travel easier for citizens of both countries.
The leaders also highlighted their shared cultural heritage. Modi said he would launch the conservation project of the historic Prambanan Temple alongside President Prabowo and announced that India and Indonesia will jointly celebrate the centenary of Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Indonesia as the "Tagore-Dewantara Year of Cultural and Educational Diplomacy."
On global issues, the Prime Minister reiterated India's support for dialogue and diplomacy, reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to the Palestine issue, and stressed India's commitment to ASEAN centrality and a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
Modi also announced that India and Indonesia will strengthen democratic cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Election Commissions of the two countries, further reinforcing their shared democratic values and long-standing strategic partnership.
