Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the enduring partnership between India and Seychelles during his address marking the island nation's 50th Independence anniversary. Recalling his first visit to Seychelles in 2015—his first trip to both the Indian Ocean region and Africa as Prime Minister—he said the country's importance in India's Indian Ocean vision has only grown stronger over the past decade.

Highlighting the close maritime partnership, PM Modi noted that while Indian Navy ship INS Nilgiri was present in Port Victoria during Seychelles' independence in 1976 as a symbol of friendship, INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak are now docked there to celebrate the nation's Golden Jubilee.
As maritime members, we recognise that the security of one adds to the security of the other. The prosperity of one contributes to the prosperity of the other, and the stability of the region benefits us all. This offers a powerful reminder of the depth of our partnership.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the security, prosperity and stability of India and Seychelles are closely interconnected. He also called for greater global commitment to climate justice, stressing that small island nations should not bear the greatest burden of climate change despite contributing the least to it.
Showcasing India's commitment to sustainability, PM Modi highlighted the country's rapid expansion of renewable energy and the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, reaffirming India's support for climate action based on fairness, responsibility and equity.
