Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the commencement of the first phase of Census 2027, marking a significant shift towards digital data collection in India’s population survey. The first phase focuses on house listing and housing operations, and for the first time, citizens have been empowered to self-enumerate their household details through digital platforms. Sharing his participation, the Prime Minister said, “Completed my self-enumeration. Today marks the beginning of the first phase of Census 2027… I appeal to the people of India to self-enumerate their household details themselves and participate in the Census process.” The move aims to enhance accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in data collection while encouraging greater public participation in the national exercise. Census 2027 is expected to play a crucial role in policy planning, governance, and resource allocation across the country.
