Narendra Modi Chairs CCS Meet on West Asia Crisis, Reviews Energy, Fertiliser & Supply Measures

By Editorial Team
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg to review India’s preparedness and response to the ongoing West Asia conflict. This marks the second such special CCS meeting on the issue. The Cabinet Secretary briefed the Prime Minister on steps taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of critical resources, including petroleum products like LPG and LNG. The government has diversified sourcing by increasing imports from multiple countries while maintaining stable LPG prices for domestic consumers. Strict enforcement measures are also underway to curb hoarding and black marketing. To ensure energy security, the government has taken steps such as expanding Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections, exempting certain gas-based power plants from pooling mechanisms, and increasing coal supply to thermal power stations to meet peak summer demand. The meeting also reviewed preparedness across key sectors including agriculture, civil aviation, shipping, and logistics. Efforts are ongoing to maintain fertiliser availability, including boosting urea production and coordinating global supplies of DAP and NPKS. States have been directed to take strict action against hoarding and diversion. Food prices have remained stable over the past month, with control rooms set up to monitor essential commodities and coordinate with states. The government is also closely tracking prices of vegetables, fruits, and other agricultural products. India is actively working to diversify global supply chains for energy and fertilisers, while supporting international efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Prime Minister Modi emphasized safeguarding citizens from the impact of global disruptions and ensuring the smooth flow of accurate information to prevent misinformation. He directed all departments to take proactive measures to mitigate challenges arising from the evolving geopolitical situation.
