Competing at Scotstoun Stadium in challenging cold and windy conditions, Neeraj Chopra began his campaign with a throw of 80.97m before producing his season-best 85.83m on his second attempt to briefly move into the lead. His remaining valid throws measured 81.29m and 80.73m, while his final two attempts were fouls.
Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage stole the spotlight with a remarkable 89.75m throw in the second round. It proved to be his only legal attempt of the competition, but it was enough to secure the Commonwealth Games gold medal.
The biggest drama unfolded in the final round when 24-year-old Yash Vir Singh, who was in sixth place before his last attempt, unleashed a personal-best 85.41m throw to leap into the bronze medal position. His effort pushed Grenada's Anderson Peters (83.88m) out of the medals and completed India's historic double podium.
The silver medal marks Neeraj Chopra's second Commonwealth Games medal, following his gold-winning performance at the Gold Coast 2018 Games. He had missed the Birmingham 2022 edition due to a groin injury.
