Tactical Final Ends in Golden Score
The gold medal contest was an intense tactical battle with both athletes displaying exceptional defensive skills. England's world No. 13 Acelya Toprak applied constant pressure through aggressive gripping and attacking movements, while Mourya defended resolutely to keep the contest scoreless during regulation time.
With neither judoka able to register a scoring move, the match entered the Golden Score period. After nearly seven minutes of extra time, Mourya received her third shido for non-combativity, handing Toprak victory by Ippon under International Judo Federation (IJF) rules.
Dominant Path to the Final
Mourya produced commanding performances throughout the tournament before reaching the final:
Quarter-final: Defeated Ghana's Frema Agyei by Ippon.
Semi-final: Beat South Africa's Donnรฉ Breytenbach by Ippon.
