Neeru Dhanda Named India’s Women’s Flag Bearer for Asian Games Closing Ceremony
Indian trap shooter Neeru Dhanda has been named India’s women’s flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, following a standout campaign that saw her win two gold medals and one silver.
The 27-year-old shooter will return to Nagoya on Saturday morning to lead the Indian contingent at Sunday’s closing ceremony. The decision was confirmed by India’s deputy chef de mission Anjali Bhagwat, while the men’s flag bearer is expected to be announced separately.
Dhanda enjoyed a memorable run in the shooting competition. She first secured silver in the women’s trap team event, alongside Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat. She then created history by winning gold in the women’s individual trap event, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in the discipline.
She completed her campaign with another gold medal in the trap mixed team event, partnering Kynan Chenai. Her three-medal haul — two golds and a silver — placed her among India’s leading performers at the continental showpiece.
Dhanda had returned to India after securing her third medal but will now make a quick trip back to Japan for the closing ceremony. Her selection as flag bearer adds another distinction to an already historic Asian Games campaign.
