PM Modi Calls Gandhi Family ‘Real Land ATM’, Launches Sharp Attack on Congress

PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a strong attack on the Congress over its past governance in Assam, accusing previous regimes of corruption, policy paralysis, and neglecting key infrastructure projects in the state.

Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister cited the highway project from Numaligarh to Dibrugarh as a “clear example” of what he termed Congress’s apathy towards Assam. He stated that although the project was approved in 2005, it saw little to no progress until 2013 despite Congress being in power at the Centre during that period.

PM Modi further alleged that the previous governments maintained a “step-motherly attitude” towards regions like Upper Assam and the Barak Valley, resulting in uneven development and long-standing neglect.

Highlighting the current government’s approach, he said the NDA has worked with urgency under the “Double Engine Government” model to accelerate infrastructure development and bridge regional gaps across the state.

The Prime Minister also spoke about his recent visit to tea gardens in Assam, where he interacted with women workers and attended a cultural programme. He accused Congress of spreading misinformation using AI-generated content to malign the cultural identity of these communities.

Referring to welfare initiatives, Modi addressed concerns around the Orunodoi Scheme, asserting that the Assam BJP government plans to expand its scope further to benefit more citizens.

In one of his most direct salvos, the Prime Minister labeled the Congress’s central leadership as the “Real Land ATM” of the country.
”The so-called first family in Delhi is the most corrupt,” he stated, citing ongoing court cases. He detailed several allegations:

National Herald Case: Allegations of grabbing thousands of crores worth of land in prime locations like Delhi and Mumbai.

Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust: Accusations of encroaching on land originally earmarked for industrial development.

Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund: Legal challenges regarding land acquisition in high-value areas of the national capital.

A Vision for a ‘Viksit Assam’

Emphasizing the cultural mosaic of the state, PM Modi praised the harmony between various communities, including the Ahom, Sonowal Kachari, Moran, Matak, Mising, Deori, and Tea Tribes.
”Whether they speak Assamese, Bengali, or Hindi, the heart of every citizen beats for a developed Assam,” he said. He asserting that Assam is central to the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), promising that the era of “stalled projects and step-motherly treatment” is permanently over.
