PM Modi Praises Trump’s Peace Efforts in West Asia, Stresses Safety of Indian Seafarers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised US President Donald Trump for his efforts to promote peace and stability in West Asia while emphasizing the need to safeguard Indian seafarers serving across global maritime routes.

During discussions with President Trump, PM Modi acknowledged the US leader’s initiative aimed at bringing peace to the conflict-hit West Asian region. He expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would contribute to greater stability and security, benefiting not only the region but also the wider international community.

At the same time, the Prime Minister highlighted India's longstanding position on freedom of navigation and maritime security. He noted that lakhs of Indian seafarers are currently deployed on commercial vessels operating in various seas around the world and play a vital role in sustaining global trade.

“India has always said that freedom of navigation should be ensured. Lakhs of Indian seafarers are on duty in different seas of the world in the sector of maritime trade. Their security is equally important,” PM Modi said.

Referring to discussions surrounding a potential agreement involving Iran, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the safety and welfare of seafarers would remain a priority. He stressed that any diplomatic arrangement should ensure secure shipping lanes and protect maritime personnel operating in strategically important waters.

PM Modi also appreciated President Trump’s commitment to de-escalation and peace-building efforts in West Asia, underscoring the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving regional tensions. He said lasting peace in the region would contribute significantly to global economic stability, energy security and the uninterrupted flow of international trade.

The remarks come at a time when maritime security and regional stability have emerged as critical global concerns. India's emphasis on protecting seafarers and ensuring freedom of navigation reflects its growing role as a leading maritime nation and a responsible stakeholder in international affairs.
