PM Modi Writes to West Bengal Voters, Urges Support for Development Vision Ahead of Elections

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed a detailed letter to the people of West Bengal, urging them to support a development-driven future as the state approaches crucial elections in the coming months. Issued in both Bengali and Hindi, the letter outlines the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) vision for progress while appealing directly to the electorate to make a decisive choice for the next generation.

In his message, the Prime Minister emphasized that the future trajectory of West Bengal hinges on the “well-thought-out decision” of its people. He recalled the state’s legacy as a post-independence economic leader and a pioneer of industrialisation, expressing concern over what he described as its current decline.

Modi strongly criticized decades of governance, alleging that “mismanagement and appeasement politics” over the past six decades have caused significant damage to the state’s growth and social fabric. He highlighted issues such as unemployment-driven migration among youth and safety concerns faced by women, stating that these challenges have deeply affected the people of the state.

Referencing iconic figures like Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo, the Prime Minister said the Bengal they envisioned is now “plagued by vote bank politics, violence, and anarchy.” He also invoked the cultural legacy of Rabindranath Tagore while alleging concerns over illegal infiltration, electoral irregularities, and law-and-order challenges.

Despite what he termed “non-cooperation” from the state government, Modi highlighted several central welfare initiatives implemented in West Bengal. These include financial inclusion under the Jan Dhan Yojana, construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and financial assistance to small traders and entrepreneurs. He also cited the impact of schemes like the Ujjwala Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, and PM-Kisan (Krishak Samman Nidhi), claiming benefits to millions across the state.

The Prime Minister concluded by invoking Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, crediting his efforts in integrating West Bengal firmly within the nation’s framework, and reiterated that the state remains an integral part of India’s growth story.
