President Droupadi Murmu addresses the nation on the eve of Independence Day and remembers victims of the Partition.

Addressing the nation on the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the lakhs of Indians who lost their lives or were displaced during the Partition of India.

Observing Vibhajan Vibheeshika Smriti Divas on August 14, President Murmu solemnly remembered the victims of the communal violence and displacement that accompanied Partition. She said lakhs of people were forced to become refugees and endure the horrors of Partition, but many did not give up their identity despite the immense suffering.

The President also recalled the enormous challenges faced by newly independent India in 1947. Alongside the consequences of Partition, the country had to integrate more than 550 princely states into the new Indian Union.

President Murmu highlighted the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, saying he brought an end to the system of kingdoms and played a crucial role in integrating the princely states into independent India’s democratic framework.

Her remarks came as the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day on August 15, while remembering the sacrifices and hardships endured during the country's journey to independence.
