Rahul Gandhi Alleges Modi Government Has Opened Indian Agriculture to US Farmers, Warns of Impact on Farmers
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has strongly criticized the Narendra Modi-led government, alleging that it has weakened India's agricultural sector by opening the country's farm market to the United States.
In a social media post, Gandhi claimed that the Modi government has, for the first time in India's history, allowed greater access to the agricultural sector for American farmers. He argued that US farmers, equipped with advanced technology and large-scale farming practices, would gain a significant competitive advantage in the Indian market.
According to Gandhi, the move could adversely affect Indian farmers, particularly small and marginal cultivators, who may struggle to compete with imported agricultural products. He warned that increased foreign competition could put pressure on domestic agricultural incomes and livelihoods.
The Congress leader further alleged that the government's policies are undermining the interests of India's farming community and could have long-term consequences for the agricultural sector.
The remarks come amid ongoing political debates over agricultural reforms, trade agreements, and measures aimed at protecting farmers' interests while expanding India's global economic engagement.
