Rahul Gandhi Demands Justice for Students

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the Opposition has demanded a discussion in Parliament over the alleged assault on students, accusing the government of showing no interest in allowing a debate on the issue.

Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi said he met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and requested that the House be allowed to discuss the developments involving the students. According to Gandhi, the Speaker said permission from the government would be required, following which the Opposition concluded that there was no willingness from the government to hold a debate.

Rahul Gandhi said the Opposition then decided to stage a protest near the Prime Minister's residence to bring the students' concerns to national attention.

Outlining the students' demands, Gandhi said they are seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He also called for action against those allegedly responsible for assaulting and humiliating the students, the withdrawal of all cases registered against the students, and a full-fledged debate on the issue in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions over the student protest, with the Opposition pressing for parliamentary discussion while the issue continues to spark political debate.
