Rahul Gandhi Shares Emotional Story of Grandmother Indira Gandhi in Lok Sabha, Links Childhood Lesson to Courage and Truth

In a deeply personal and reflective moment in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi shared an emotional childhood memory of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, drawing a powerful connection between that experience and his resolve to stand for truth.

Recounting the incident, Gandhi said that as a young boy, he was afraid of the dark and of a large dog that often intimidated him and his sister. One evening, while his parents were away, his grandmother took him into the garden and asked him to stay there alone, encouraging him not to be afraid.

He described those moments as intensely fearful, filled with imagined dangers—from snakes to the dog itself. When his grandmother returned, she asked him what he was afraid of. Gandhi recalled telling her about his fears, to which she responded that he was not truly afraid of the dark or animals, but of his own mind, imagination, and thoughts.

According to Gandhi, Indira Gandhi then imparted a lasting lesson: that truth often resides in darkness, and without the courage to confront fear, one cannot truly understand or fight for it.

Reflecting on the experience, Gandhi said the lesson went beyond politics and touched upon a deeper philosophical and spiritual idea—captured in the phrase “Satyam Shivam Sundaram.” He suggested that this early teaching continues to guide his approach to public life and his commitment to confronting challenges fearlessly.

The emotional recollection added a human dimension to the ongoing parliamentary discourse, offering insight into the personal values shaping the Congress leader’s political journey.
