Rakhi Bandhan Celebrations Across West Bengal on August 28

Rakhi Bandhan Celebrations will be organised across West Bengal on August 28, with the state government planning large-scale programmes to promote brotherhood, communal harmony, social unity and nationalism. Events will be held across both rural and urban areas, covering Gram Panchayats, blocks, subdivisions, district headquarters, municipalities and municipal corporations.

The state government has made extensive arrangements for the celebrations, including the distribution of more than 25 lakh rakhis across West Bengal. A total budget of Rs 8.97 crore has been allocated for organising the Rakhi Bandhan programmes at different administrative levels.

West Bengal Government Plans Statewide Rakhi Celebrations

The Rakhi Bandhan Celebrations are expected to bring together people from different sections of society through cultural programmes and ceremonial activities.

According to the planned arrangements, government-sponsored programmes will be organised at various administrative levels. Gram Panchayats, blocks, subdivisions and district administrations will participate in the celebrations, while municipalities and municipal corporations will also conduct special events.

The initiative is aimed at using Rakhi Bandhan as a platform to strengthen social relationships and encourage a spirit of fraternity and national unity across the state.

Rs 8.97 Crore Allocated for Programmes

The West Bengal government has earmarked Rs 8.97 crore for this year's Rakhi Bandhan Celebrations. The allocation has been distributed among different administrative bodies to facilitate programmes at the local level.

As part of the arrangements, Rs 22 lakh has been allocated for 22 district headquarters. The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will receive Rs 1 lakh each for their respective programmes.

For the 144 wards under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, a total of Rs 28.80 lakh has been allocated. Six municipal corporations will collectively receive Rs 6 lakh, while 121 municipalities have been allocated a total of Rs 1.21 crore.

At the subdivision and block levels, Rs 11.25 lakh has been allocated for 45 subdivisions and Rs 86.25 lakh for 345 blocks.

The largest allocation at the grassroots level has been earmarked for Gram Panchayats. A total of Rs 3.34 crore will be distributed among 3,342 Gram Panchayats to organise Rakhi Bandhan programmes.

Over 25 Lakh Rakhis to Be Supplied

The state government has also planned a large-scale procurement and distribution of rakhis for the celebrations.

Around 25,60,500 rakhis will be supplied across West Bengal. Separately, Rs 2.85 crore has been allocated specifically for the procurement of rakhis.

The large number of rakhis reflects the scale of the celebrations planned across the state. Government institutions and local administrative bodies are expected to use the rakhis as part of programmes designed to promote fraternity and social harmony.

Special Rakhi Bandhan Programme in Kolkata

Kolkata will host several important events as part of the statewide Rakhi Bandhan Celebrations.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is scheduled to organise a special programme featuring the national anthem, ceremonial lamp lighting, Rakhi Bandhan and cultural performances.

A major state-level programme will also be organised at Nazrul Mancha from morning through the afternoon. The event is expected to see participation from around 2,500 college students, NCC cadets and students associated with Youth Computer Centres.
Students from Rabindra Bharati University will also participate by presenting cultural programmes.

Tricolour-Themed Rakhis Planned

The state-level celebration will also feature a strong national theme. Around 5,000 tricolour-themed rakhis have been planned for participants at the Kolkata programme.
