Ranbir Kapoor directorial debut planned within two to three years
The Ranbir Kapoor directorial debut could begin filming within two or three years, the actor said during a recent interview alongside Sai Pallavi. He has started writing a script and hopes to move into direction after completing his current acting commitments.
Kapoor said he began work on the screenplay a few months ago and had found creating a story harder than expected. The experience, he explained, had increased his appreciation for writers and other creators.
He described directing as an opportunity to gather people around a story and guide it towards the screen. Although details of the project are still being developed, he already has a broad idea of the kind of film he would like to make.
Family drama is the preferred direction
The Ranbir Kapoor directorial debut is being conceived as a family drama with a warm, uplifting tone. He named Life is Beautiful, It's a Wonderful Life and Rajkumar Hirani's films among the works he admires.
Kapoor also said he does not intend to act in the film he directs. His aim is to finish outstanding projects before beginning production, rather than setting an immediate filming date.
Discussing his schedule, he said he generally spends between 100 and 125 days a year working, leaving time to develop stories. He added that his present level of commitments was unusual compared with his earlier pattern of completing one film before moving to another.
The actor referred to Brahmastra 2, Animal 2 and the second Ramayana instalment among the projects he wants to complete. He described the current period as potentially his final decade focused on acting.
Kapoor is appearing in Ramayana and will also feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
