In a historic political development, Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday, becoming the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold the top post in the state.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at a ceremony held at Lok Bhawan in Patna. Alongside Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav were also sworn in as members of the Council of Ministers.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of several top leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar. Key attendees included Union Ministers J. P. Nadda and Chirag Paswan, along with veteran leader Nitish Kumar and NDA MLAs.
Earlier, Nitish Kumar resigned from the Chief Minister’s post and dissolved his cabinet, paving the way for Choudhary’s elevation.
Choudhary, who had been serving as Deputy Chief Minister and handling the crucial Home portfolio, was elected as the BJP legislative party leader a day prior.
The decision was taken in the presence of senior BJP leadership, including Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was appointed as the central observer for the leadership transition.
Choudhary, who joined the BJP in 2017, now takes charge at a crucial time as the NDA aims to strengthen its political foothold in Bihar ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
