Suvendu Adhikari to Vacate One Seat in 10 Days After Twin Wins in Nandigram and Bhawanipur, Decision Left to BJP

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced that he will vacate one of his two assembly seats within the next 10 days, following his significant victories in both Nandigram and Bhawanipur.
Adhikari, who delivered a major political upset by defeating outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur while also retaining his stronghold in Nandigram, said the final decision on which seat to keep will be taken by the party leadership.

Speaking after his twin victories, Adhikari stated that he would step down from one constituency in accordance with electoral norms, which prohibit holding two seats simultaneously for an extended period.

“I will vacate one of the two seats within 10 days. The decision on which seat I will retain will be taken by the party leadership,” he said.
The development comes amid a high-stakes political environment in West Bengal, where the BJP has been aggressively expanding its footprint. Adhikari’s victory in Bhabanipur is being seen as one of the most significant moments of the election, given the constituency’s political importance and Mamata Banerjee’s strong association with it.
His win in Nandigram further cements his position as one of the BJP’s most influential leaders in the state.

Political observers are now closely watching which constituency Adhikari will choose to retain, as the decision could have strategic implications for the party’s future positioning in the state.
