Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong Clicks Selfie with PM Narendra Modi and President Lee Jae-myung Using Made-in-India Flip7
In a symbolic moment highlighting India’s growing stature in global manufacturing, Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, clicked a selfie with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung during a luncheon hosted in New Delhi.
What made the moment even more significant was the device used — a Flip7 smartphone manufactured at Samsung’s Noida facility in India. The gesture subtly underscored India’s emergence as a major global hub for smartphone production.
Samsung has been manufacturing mobile phones in Noida since 1996, steadily expanding its capabilities to produce everything from entry-level devices to premium flagship and foldable smartphones. Today, the Noida plant stands as one of the company’s largest mobile manufacturing units globally.
By producing its flagship models, including foldables, within India, Samsung continues to align with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The company’s long-term investment in local manufacturing not only strengthens domestic production but also positions India as a key export hub in the global electronics supply chain.
The selfie moment between the three leaders thus goes beyond a simple photo-op — it reflects deepening India–South Korea ties, growing technological collaboration, and India’s rising prominence in advanced manufacturing.
