Seema Kaliramna Wins CWG 2026 Discus Bronze for India

Indian discus thrower Seema Kaliramna produced a remarkable performance to win the bronze medal in the Women's Discus Throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday, adding another chapter to India's rich legacy in the event.

The 27-year-old Haryana athlete registered a best throw of 58.65 metres in the third round at Scotstoun Stadium, securing India's fourth athletics medal of the Games.

Seema endured a nervous start after her opening attempt struck the side cage, but quickly recovered with a 57.32m effort in the second round to move into third place. She then delivered her decisive throw of 58.65m in the third round, a mark that remained enough to secure the bronze despite fouling her final three attempts while chasing an even bigger distance.

Jamaica's Samantha Hall claimed the gold medal with a throw of 61.66m, while Canada's Julia Tunks took silver with 60.67m. Fellow Indian Nidhi Rani narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with a best throw of 57.10m.

Seema's medal is the culmination of an inspiring comeback journey. After stepping away from athletics to start a family, she returned to elite competition under the guidance of her husband and coach, Ravinder. Having owned a personal best of 48.08m before motherhood, she rebuilt her career to achieve a lifetime best of 59.73m earlier this season at the Inter-State National Championships.

Balancing elite sport with family life, Seema is also pursuing a PhD in Physical Education at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University in Bhiwani while raising her young son, Rudra.
With this podium finish, Seema becomes the sixth Indian woman to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the discus throw, continuing India's proud tradition in the discipline. Her bronze joins India's athletics medal haul alongside Sarvesh Kushare (high jump), Sreeshankar Murali (long jump), and Gulveer Singh (10,000m) at Glasgow 2026.
