Glasgow 2026 CWG Day 7: Hoy, Records & Gold Rush

Day 7 of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games delivered another memorable chapter with historic cycling achievements, world records, thrilling athletics and outstanding performances in weightlifting.

The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome witnessed an emotional start to the Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling competitions as Scottish legend Sir Chris Hoy visited the venue named in his honour. The action on the track matched the occasion, with Australia's Tara Neyland and England's Morgan Newberry both setting world records in the Women's C4 and C5 4000m Individual Pursuit events respectively.

Scotland celebrated a landmark moment as Neil Fachie returned from retirement to win gold, securing his sixth Commonwealth Games title and becoming Scotland's most successful Commonwealth Games athlete in history.

In athletics, Canada's Damian Warner made an impressive start to the decathlon and leads after the opening day. Two-time defending champion Lindon Victor of Grenada remains in close pursuit as he aims for a third consecutive Commonwealth title.

The men's 200m semifinals produced a major surprise as Cameroon's 100m champion Emmanuel Eseme narrowly missed qualification for the final by just 0.01 seconds. Jamaica's Christopher Taylor posted the fastest qualifying time, while Australia's Lachlan Kennedy advanced as one of the fastest losers.

In the women's 200m semifinals, Adaejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands set a new Commonwealth Games record with a blistering 22.01 seconds. She will be joined in the final by Australia's Torrie Lewis and Jamaica's Alana Reid and Ashanti Moore.
Weightlifting also produced memorable moments. Fiji celebrated its first medal of the Games as Taniela Tuisuva Rainibogi claimed gold in the men's 110kg category. Tonga's Joshua Uikilifi Jr became a fan favourite thanks to his energetic celebrations after every successful lift.

England's Emily Campbell successfully defended her women's +86kg title in spectacular fashion, setting new Commonwealth and Games records with a 163kg clean and jerk lift.
