Dunki will hit theatres in India on December 21, 2023, and will be Shah Rukh Khan’s third release in
2023. His two earlier films, Pathaan and Jawan have been blockbusters. If advance bookings are any
indication, SRK is all set to dominate the box office once again with his upcoming movie Dunki. It will be
the first collaboration between SRK and 3 Idiots’ director, Rajkumar Hirani.
Dunki is expected to have a spectacular start at the box office as the movie has already garnered over Rs
7 crore through advance booking. As per the latest report, SRK’s Dunki has sold 2,55,796 tickets throughout the country and has garnered
INR 7.46 crore on its opening day. Currently, Maharashtra is leading among states as far as first-day
advance bookings are concerned at INR 1.32 crore. It is followed by Delhi and West Bengal with INR 1.18
crore and INR 99.13, respectively.
Among major Hyderabad and Kolkata reported high occupancy rates of 26 per cent, both contributing
INR 83.95 lakh and INR 74.45 lakh. Simultaneously, cities like Pune and Surat reported lower occupancy
with 7 per cent and 3 per cent respectively. The National Capital Region (NCR) had 1,039 shows, the
most across all the regions which certainly indicates a high level of interest.
According to reports, Dunki has already overtaken Salaar in advance bookings, reaching INR 7.6 crore in
just five days without premiere shows. The film is expected to surpass INR 12.5 crore by December 20,
2023. This should take the total advance booking number for Dunki to well over INR 15 crore.
All eyes are now on Dunki and the big question is whether it will break Pathaan’s and Jawan’s records.
The movie falls into a different genre and will be running alongside Salaar at the box office.
The biggest challenge for the movie is likely to be the Prabhas-starrer ‘Salaar’ that is scheduled to be
released a day after ‘Dunki’. Both movies have already generated much anticipation and are highly
awaited by fans. The pressure is supposed to be more on Salaar as its budget is 4 times higher as
compared to ‘Dunki’.
