‘She was singing on call’: Talat Aziz recalls his last conversation with Asha Bhosle

Talat Aziz shared details of his last conversation with Asha Bhosle, remembering her spirit and love for music even during health struggles. Legendary singer Asha Bhosle’s demise on April 12 has left the music industry in shock and mourning. As tributes continue to pour in, singer Talat Aziz opened up about his final conversation with her, recalling how she remained cheerful and even sang despite not being in good health.

Talat Aziz recalls his last conversation with Asha Bhosle

Talat Aziz shared that he had a close and special bond with the iconic singer. Speaking to Zoom, he revealed that just days before leaving for Mauritius on April 3, he received a video call from Asha Bhosle.

“I asked her how she was doing, and she said her health hadn’t been too good lately. We spoke at length about old times and people from the past, including Lata ji. She told me, ‘When you return from Mauritius, come and meet me, we’ll sit and talk.’ But fate had other plans,” he said.

Talat returned to India around April 9–10, and by April 11, he learned that her condition had worsened. On April 12, he spoke to her daughter-in-law, Anjula, who informed him that the singer was critical. Soon after, the news of her passing was confirmed.

Remembering her spirit, Talat added,
“She was young at heart — not 92, but 22. Her outlook on life was incredibly positive. She was literally singing on the phone and asking me how her voice sounded. I told her, ‘You’re singing perfectly in tune and still saying you’re unwell — it’s amazing.’”

About Asha Bhosle’s demise

Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12 at the age of 92. She had been admitted to the hospital a day earlier due to cardiac and respiratory issues and later succumbed to multiple organ failure.

Her passing came as a huge shock to the film and music fraternity. Her last rites were held on Monday in Mumbai, attended by several prominent personalities.

Celebrities including Tabu, Sachin Tendulkar, Ranveer Singh, Riteish Deshmukh, and others paid their respects and were seen consoling her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle. Her casket, adorned with white lilies and draped in the tricolour, was kept at her residence before the final rites.

Several notable figures, including Vicky Kaushal, Aamir Khan, Jackie Shroff, and political leaders such as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, Supriya Sule, Uddhav Thackeray, and Aaditya Thackeray, were present at Shivaji Park to bid farewell to the legendary singer.
