Suvendu Adhikari Orders Probe Into TMC-Era Corruption
West Bengal Chief Minister launched an anti-corruption crackdown to target alleged institutional corruption of the previous Trinamool Congress regime.
The Chief Minister accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of orchestrating large-scale financial malpractice through its flagship industrial event, the Bengal Global Business Summit.
Speaking in the State Legislative Assembly, Adhikari tabled what he claimed was a "file of corruption" alleging major financial irregularities.
He claimed that over Rs 324 crore of state funds were illegally funneled to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in violation of established legal procedures, stating that the transaction was "merely the tip of the iceberg" as far as institutional embezzlement is concerned.
Adhikari said the new BJP government has put in place anti-graft recruitment controls, single-window clearance system to eliminate local extortion and bribery, a single-window portal has been introduced for investors committing more than Rs 100 crore.
Local panchayats and municipal bodies will no longer have any role in granting land or project approvals.
Document verification checks are being enforced on state-contracted civic volunteers.
The state administration will systematically seize and attach personal properties of political workers who disrupt law and order or attack security personnel to recover financial damages, having already destined over 25 individuals under non-bailable clauses.
"An attack on a police station is a direct challenge to state authority. The era of political shield from prosecution is over," the Chief Minister said.
TMC Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee dismissed these allegations, stating it as politically motivated state overreach.
