West Bengal's Anti-Hooliganism Law Takes Effect

West Bengal's Anti-Hooliganism Act has come into force, empowering authorities to take stricter action against organized crime, extortion, syndicate rackets, illegal land grabbing and other anti-social activities. The law also provides for preventive detention of up to 12 months, subject to review by an Advisory Board.
