Maidul Islam Middya, a leftist activist from Bankura Kotulpur, was seriously injured during the SFI DYFI Nabanna operation on 11 February.
He breathed his last at a private hospital in Park Street on Monday morning. Doctors on behalf of the hospital said the 31-year-old leftist was critically injured with multiple stick marks on his body and scars on his back. And the liver was no longer working.
Left activists and top leadership have questioned the activism of the police. On this matter, SFI leader Srijan Bhattacharya addressd media saying “Not only was the worker beaten but killed. There will be protests across the state and he will be taken to a Kolkata police morgue from a private hospital this morning. From there he will be brought to the SFI headquarters in the state to pay his last respects.”
