TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Resigns as Trinamool Mahila Congress President, Cites Corruption and Leadership Concerns
In a significant political development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from her post as the president of the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress wing, citing concerns over corruption, internal party functioning, and moral responsibility.
In her resignation letter, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar expressed deep dissatisfaction over what she described as the inability to stop “inappropriate behaviour” by another woman MP toward female parliamentarians. She also alleged a lack of cooperation and empathy from the party’s higher leadership.
The TMC MP further stated that several incidents over the past decade had “deeply troubled” her conscience, including allegations related to corruption in ration distribution, teacher recruitment scams, and other financial and administrative irregularities in West Bengal.
Referring to the RG Kar Medical College case, she said the unnatural death of a female doctor and allegations of evidence tampering surrounding the incident had “shaken and distressed society,” adding that she personally felt the moral impact of the controversy very deeply.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar also raised concerns regarding the growing influence of I-PAC within the party structure, alleging that “opaque and undemocratic influences” were gradually dominating the organization over democratic political culture.
Despite her resignation from the Mahila Congress leadership role, she clarified that she is not leaving the Trinamool Congress and will continue to serve as an ordinary party worker dedicated to the people of West Bengal.
The resignation has triggered political reactions across Bengal, especially ahead of crucial political developments in the state.
