Kolkata Police Issues Traffic Advisory For ‘Shab-E-Barat’ On Feb 25 &26

Kolkata Police has issued a traffic advisory for the city in view of the upcoming festival on Sab-e-Barat that falls on February 25 and 26, 2024.

Kolkata Police Issues Traffic Advisory For 'Shab-E-Barat' On Feb 25 &26

Authorized under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Calcutta Police Act, 1866, and the West Bengal Traffic Regulation Act 1965, the advisory aims to prevent any potential dangers, inconvenience or obstructions to the general public.

As per the notification, all categories of good vehicles will be subject to certain restrictions from February 25 (6 am) to February 26 (6 am). During this mentioned period, these vehicles would be prohibited from plying along certain roads in the city.

Categories Of Vehicle Exceptions

There are exceptions in the categories of commercial vehicles. Some will not be restricted and will be permitted at all times as usual. These are emergency and essential vehicles carrying LPG and oxygen cylinders, petrol and diesel oil, lubricants, milk, medicines, fresh fruits and vegetables, fish. Such vehicles will be permitted to ply as usual. 

City traffic might also be diverted through the arterial and feeder roads if deemed necessary.

Kolkata Police has posted the advisory on its official social media handle on X. A list of 34 roads in the city that have been earmarked for traffic restrictions in view of the festival have been mentioned on the social media handle of Kolkata Police. 

Port-originated and port-bound vehicles will have restricted timings, allowing them to ply between 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on February 25 and light goods vehicles will be allowed to ply from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
