Trump Demands Iran Pay Compensation for Victims

US President Donald Trump speaking about compensation demands against Iran

US President Donald Trump has said he will seek compensation from Iran for people who were killed or seriously wounded in conflicts involving Iranian roadside bombs.

Trump also said compensation should be paid to the families of what he described as “hundreds of thousands” of Iranian protesters killed by the Iranian government over the past five decades.

According to Trump, the compensation demand will form part of the US position in any future negotiations with Tehran.

“I have instructed my representatives to put this firmly into any, and all, future negotiations,” Trump said.

The remarks signal that compensation for victims could become a significant issue in any potential diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.
