US-India Trade Hits Record Levels, Says Ambassador Gor
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has highlighted the rapid expansion of economic and strategic ties between India and the United States, saying bilateral trade in goods and services has risen from around $20 billion to more than $240 billion in just over two decades.
Calling the moment “truly remarkable,” Gor said the 12-fold increase in trade reflects growing cooperation across several strategic sectors, including artificial intelligence, technology, aerospace, defence and energy.
According to Gor, the two countries are now working together at “record levels,” driven by what he described as deep and enduring trust between India and the United States.
$500 Billion Trade Goal by 2030
Gor also pointed to the shared ambition of taking bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, describing it as evidence of the enormous economic potential between the two countries.
He said the target reflects the scale of opportunities available as India and the US deepen cooperation in emerging technologies and critical industries.
Focus on AI, Quantum Computing and Semiconductors
The ambassador also highlighted cooperation in strategic technologies, including AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, defence and critical minerals.
Gor said US President Donald Trump has placed significant importance on the relationship with India and referred to a trust initiative launched by Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi early in Trump's second term.
He said the initiative is aimed at transforming the bilateral relationship and using strategic technologies to accelerate cooperation.
India as a Global AI Hub
Reflecting on his first few months in India, Gor pointed to the Global AI Summit hosted in New Delhi as an example of India's growing importance in the technology ecosystem.
He argued that India's position as a major technology and innovation hub makes it a natural place for the US and India to advance cooperation in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Gor's remarks underline the increasingly broad scope of the India-US partnership, extending beyond traditional trade and defence ties to include AI, advanced technology, energy, critical minerals and next-generation strategic industries.
