Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Colombo on a two-day official visit, marking a historic milestone as the first-ever bilateral visit by an Indian Vice President to Sri Lanka. The visit is seen as a key step in further strengthening India–Sri Lanka relations and reinforcing long-standing civilisational and people-to-people ties.

During the visit, the Vice President is scheduled to call on Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and hold formal discussions with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. He will also engage with senior political leadership and interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Sri Lanka.
The engagements are expected to focus on deepening cooperation in areas of strategic importance, including regional stability in the Indian Ocean region, economic collaboration, cultural exchanges, and diaspora connectivity. Officials noted that the visit reflects India’s continued emphasis on strengthening neighbourhood partnerships through sustained high-level diplomatic outreach.
The Colombo visit underscores the growing importance of India–Sri Lanka relations in the broader regional framework, with both sides looking to expand cooperation and enhance long-term engagement across multiple sectors.
