West Bengal Grants ₹5 Lakh to 60 Rath Yatra Committees

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the West Bengal government has announced financial assistance for Rath Yatra committees across the state, providing ₹5 lakh each to 60 committees to support the smooth organisation of the annual festival.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari distributed the grants during a programme at Nabanna on Monday, describing the initiative as a significant step towards preserving West Bengal's rich religious and cultural heritage.

To ensure the festival is conducted peacefully and efficiently, the state government will also establish 70 special camps across West Bengal. These camps will coordinate law and order, healthcare services, administrative assistance and other essential facilities for devotees and organisers.

Addressing representatives of the Rath Yatra committees, the Chief Minister said the government was committed to extending every possible support for the successful celebration of the festival. He noted that while demands for financial assistance had been made for several years, this marks the first time the state has provided direct grants to Rath Yatra committees.

Representatives of the beneficiary committees welcomed the move, saying the financial support would strengthen festival preparations and help ensure safer and better-managed celebrations.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to inaugurate the ISKCON Rath Yatra celebrations on Albert Road, Kolkata, on July 16, according to official sources. The event is expected to draw thousands of devotees from across the state.
