West Bengal Smart Schools Initiative: Government Unveils Smart Classrooms, Video Tutorials and ₹295 Crore School Grants

West Bengal Smart Schools is the focus of the state government's latest education reforms, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announcing a comprehensive plan to modernise government and government-aided schools through smart classrooms, digital learning, AI-based education and improved infrastructure.

The announcements were made on Wednesday during the distribution of Composite School Grant Funds to 80,375 government and government-aided schools, for which the state has allocated ₹295 crore. The government said the initiative aims to improve the quality of public education, reduce the gap between government and private institutions and equip students with modern learning tools.

The Chief Minister also announced that West Bengal would align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, enabling the state to receive greater financial assistance from the Central Government for educational development.

₹295 Crore Released Under Composite School Grant

As part of the education push, the state government has sanctioned ₹295 crore under the Composite School Grant Fund.

The financial assistance will benefit more than 80,000 government and government-aided schools, allowing institutions to improve classrooms, learning resources and essential infrastructure.

Officials said the grants would help schools address long-pending maintenance requirements while also supporting the introduction of modern educational facilities.

Smart Classrooms to Transform Government Schools

The government announced that more than 1,200 government and government-aided schools will receive digital learning support.

Around 1,000 higher secondary schools will receive approval for Atal Tinkering Laboratories, providing students with access to innovation, robotics, coding and STEM education.

These laboratories are expected to encourage scientific thinking, creativity and practical learning among students.

National Education Policy to Strengthen School Education

The Chief Minister announced that West Bengal will implement provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

According to him, joining the national policy framework will help the state strengthen educational standards while increasing access to Central Government funding.
