The eight were arrested for running a fake call Centre in Kolkata. A total of 137 SIM cards, ATM cards, mobile phones and other items were seized by the police during the raid.
Investigation On Basis Of Written Complaint At Airport PS
Based on a written complaint submitted by Smt. Keya Paul residing under Airport PS, a case was registered on 08/02/2024. The complainant received a phone call where the caller identified himself as an employee of Baja Allianz Insurance Company. The caller then persuaded the lady to avail benefits of a lapsed policy that had been opened by her father. The caller also persuaded the lady to transfer certain sums of cash to some fraudulent accounts as well provide certain official documents to initiate the process. The details were provided by the fictious caller, and the lady was conned into doing as he directed. Thereafter, the caller furnished another fraudulent bank account and asked her to transfer yet another sum of money which was supposed to be a ‘refundable registration fee’. Again, trusting the caller, the lady did as she was directed after which the call was disconnected abruptly. After a few days had passed, the lady received yet another phone call from an individual claiming to be a high authority of the organization. This new caller asked the lady to transfer yet another sum of money for certain additional procedures. Once again, the lady fell prey to the scam and transferred the money. She realized that she was made a victim of a racket when nothing that was assured to her took place. Thereupon, she registered a complaint to Airport PS who started the investigation.
Fake Call Centre Under Survey Park PS
During the investigation, the authorities discovered the fake call Centre racket right in Kolkata under Survey Park PS. They arrested a total of eight individuals – including three women – who were in the process of duping innocent victims by promising false benefits posing as employees of established financial companies. Among other items, lists of customer details, tower-related documents, bank documents, forged documents, dialer etc. was recovered during the raid.
