The Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the 38th convocation ceremony of the
Bharathidasan University is in Tiruchi today. He urged the students to give back to
society and enable the nation to grow in their respective fields. He said the country’s
Rapid growth in all sectors and all spheres of development would lead the country to
the status of a developed nation by 2047.
The prime minister also said that
Universities in the country have a great role to play in enabling this. Prime Minister
Narendra Modi presented gold medals to outstanding students on the occasion.
Engineers, economists, businesspeople, and young graduates could contribute to their
respective fields for the nation to achieve the ambitious goal of becoming a developed
nation by 2047. The country is already making rapid strides in the right direction.
The whole of society, including the poorest of the poor, has a role in bringing the
graduates [of the university] to the important day of convocation. Now, the graduate
Students should give back to them to build a better society. This was the true
purpose of education, said the Prime Minister.
Quoting Tamil poet Bharathidasan’s words, “Let us create a brave new world.
[Puthiyathor Ulagam Seivom],” the Prime Minister said. Indian youth were in the
process of fulfilling his words today by rising to the occasion.
Lauding Bharathidasan University, he said it had been established on a strong
mature foundation and was impactful in many domains. With its rich tradition, it made
a unique mark by imparting knowledge and skills to youth and producing several
talents for the country.
The Country Has A Legacy Of Great Centres Of Learning, Says
Prime Minister
“The nation and civilization centre around knowledge,” said the Prime Minister. Some
of the earliest universities in the land, Nalanda and Vikramashila were well-known for
exemplifying this. Places like Kancheepuram housed great universities;
Gangaikondachozhapuram and Madurai were also great seats of learning. The concept

The Tamil Sangam had
a practice of recognizing writers after a standard practice of analyzing their work.
Leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Madan Mohan Malviya, and Sir Annamalai Chettiar
contributed towards setting up universities before independence that were hubs of
knowledge and nationalism, Mr Modi said.

model in imparting quality higher education to students across the nation and
