The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed fresh polling in all 285 polling stations, including auxiliary booths, in the 144-Falta Assembly Constituency of West Bengal. The re-poll will be conducted on May 21, 2026, between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 24, 2026.
The decision follows serious concerns raised over the conduct of polling on April 29, 2026. According to the ECI, the directive was issued after “consideration of severe electoral offences and subversion of the democratic process” reported across a large number of polling stations in the constituency.
The Commission’s move underscores its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections. Re-polling in such a large number of booths is seen as a significant step aimed at restoring electoral integrity and voter confidence in the affected constituency.
The 144-Falta Assembly seat, located in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, has been under scrutiny following multiple complaints of irregularities during polling day. With fresh voting now scheduled, authorities are expected to deploy enhanced security and monitoring mechanisms to prevent any recurrence of disruptions.
