Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari about the approval of a Final Location Survey (FLS) for the proposed 107-kilometre third rail line between Salboni and Adra in West Bengal.
The approval of the Final Location Survey marks a significant step toward strengthening railway infrastructure and improving freight and passenger connectivity in the region. The proposed third line is expected to enhance operational efficiency, reduce congestion on existing routes, and support industrial and economic growth across several districts of West Bengal.

The Salboni–Adra rail corridor is strategically important for industrial transportation, particularly for mineral, steel, and freight movement. Railway officials believe the additional line will improve logistics capacity and ensure smoother train operations in one of the state’s key railway sections.
The development is also expected to boost regional connectivity and support future infrastructure expansion projects under Indian Railways’ modernization plans.
