Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday claimed that long-pending infrastructure hurdles at Chingri Ghata in Kolkata have finally been resolved following a political shift in West Bengal.
Sharing his remarks on social media, Vaishnaw stated that a “double-engine government” is now functioning in the state and that the Chingri Ghata issue, which had remained stalled for nearly three years, has now received all necessary clearances, including permission from the Kolkata Police.

According to the Railway Minister, work on the project is now officially beginning, marking a significant development for commuters and infrastructure expansion in the eastern metropolitan corridor.
Chingri Ghata, one of Kolkata’s busiest traffic junctions connecting the EM Bypass, Salt Lake, and New Town regions, has witnessed severe congestion and infrastructure bottlenecks over the years. The clearance of the pending project is expected to improve connectivity and reduce traffic pressure in the area.
The minister’s statement also carries political significance, as the term “double-engine government” is commonly used by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to describe alignment between the Central and State governments for faster development and project execution.
The development comes amid increasing focus on infrastructure modernization, transport connectivity, and urban mobility projects across West Bengal.
