Agnimitra Paul Demands Mamata Banerjee’s Arrest Over Indranil Sen Case
Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul on Saturday demanded the arrest of Mamata Banerjee while referring to the ongoing investigation involving former West Bengal minister Indranil Sen and alleged financial irregularities linked to Durga Puja preview passes.
Speaking in Asansol, Paul argued that no political leader should be considered above the Constitution or criminal law.
Her demand is a political statement and does not amount to a judicial or investigative finding against Banerjee.
‘How Can You Be Above the Law?’ Paul Asks
Paul said:
“No one is above the Constitution of India or the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.”
She questioned why Banerjee should not face arrest if money linked to Sen had been transferred to her account.
Paul said authorities should apply the law equally to all those against whom evidence exists.
ED Had Flagged ₹30 Lakh Transfer
The Enforcement Directorate has previously said that nearly ₹30 lakh was transferred through banking channels from Octave Records, a proprietorship concern linked to Indranil Sen, to Mamata Banerjee’s account. Sen claimed the amount represented royalty payments.
Crucially, the ED’s public statement did not name Banerjee as an accused or allege that the transaction itself represented proceeds of crime.
Indranil Sen Arrested in Puja Pass Case
Indranil Sen was arrested by Kolkata Police on October 28 in connection with alleged financial irregularities linked to Durga Puja preview shows and the sale of entry passes.
Police told the court that the alleged corruption could exceed ₹100 crore and said they were examining multiple bank accounts linked to Sen, his family, firms and associates.
Sen remains under investigation, and the allegations against him have not yet been finally adjudicated.
Paul Links Arrest Demand to Wider Accountability
Paul framed her remarks around the principle that political leaders and former chief ministers should face the same legal standards as anyone else.
She argued that the alleged money trail should be fully investigated and that action should follow if investigators find evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
The Agnimitra Paul Mamata Banerjee arrest demand comes amid continuing police and ED probes into the alleged Puja pass scam.
At this stage, the reported ₹30 lakh transfer has been acknowledged by investigators as part of the money trail, but there is no reported finding that Banerjee committed an offence in relation to that transfer.
