Sanjay Raut Says Time Has Come for PM Modi to Step Down
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday said the time had come for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step down from office, while questioning Modi’s remarks about continuing to serve people throughout his life.
Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Raut argued that if Modi intended to devote himself to public service after leaving office, questions arose about how he viewed his work during the past 12 years.
His remarks represent a political attack by an opposition leader and do not establish that Modi plans to leave office.
Raut Questions Modi’s Public-Service Remarks
Raut said:
“The time has come for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step down from power.”
He questioned why the Prime Minister was now stressing lifelong public service and asked what that meant in the context of his years in government.
Raut also invoked industrialist Gautam Adani, asking rhetorically whom Modi had been serving.
That allegation was political rhetoric; Raut did not provide evidence in the remarks establishing wrongdoing by Modi or Adani.
Raut Has Repeatedly Predicted Modi’s Exit
The Sanjay Raut Modi step down remarks follow several recent statements in which the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader predicted that Modi would not remain Prime Minister beyond March or April 2027.
Earlier in October, Raut claimed there was “unrest” within the BJP and said Modi’s government would not survive beyond the first few months of next year.
Those predictions remain Raut’s political claims and are not confirmed developments.
BJP Rejects Retirement Claims
BJP leaders have repeatedly rejected suggestions that Modi is required to retire because of his age.
Maharashtra BJP leaders have said there is no formal party rule requiring leaders to retire at 75 and argued that the Prime Minister’s tenure is determined by electoral mandate rather than opposition predictions.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also publicly dismissed speculation about Modi’s retirement and said he expects Modi to continue leading the BJP beyond the current term.
Adani Reference Adds to Political Attack
Raut’s reference to Gautam Adani reflects a wider opposition line of attack that has frequently questioned the relationship between the Modi government and major business groups.
In this instance, however, Raut framed the issue as a rhetorical question rather than presenting new documentary evidence.
Political Debate Over Modi’s Future Continues
The latest comments add to a continuing debate over Modi’s political future and leadership of the BJP.
Raut has repeatedly argued that a change in leadership is approaching, while BJP leaders have dismissed those claims as speculation.
The Sanjay Raut Modi step down remarks therefore form part of a wider political confrontation between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the BJP rather than an announced change in government leadership.
