In a sharp political attack in Kolkata, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reacted strongly to a viral video involving Humayun Kabir, drawing clear political lines ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Addressing the media,
Shah dismissed any possibility of alignment with Kabir, stating that the BJP and Humayun Kabir are “like the North Pole and the South Pole,” emphasizing that ideological differences between them are irreconcilable.
In a direct attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Shah remarked that critics may underestimate her political capabilities, adding that she is capable of producing “thousands of such videos.”
Escalating his rhetoric, the Home Minister asserted that the BJP would prefer to remain in opposition for decades rather than associate with individuals or forces he accused of promoting divisive agendas.
The remarks come at a time when political tensions in West Bengal are intensifying, with parties gearing up for the crucial 2026 Assembly elections. The viral video controversy has further fueled the political narrative, with the BJP positioning itself firmly against what it describes as appeasement and ideological compromise.
Shah’s statement underscores the BJP’s strategy of drawing sharp contrasts with the ruling Trinamool Congress and other regional players, while reinforcing its core political messaging in the state.
