Ashwini Vaishnaw Announces 60 New-Generation Trains for Kolkata Metro, Major Mobility Boost

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw travelled on the Kolkata Metro on Friday and announced an ambitious modernization plan for the city's metro network.

Speaking during his visit, the minister revealed that around 60 new-generation metro trains are planned for induction into the Kolkata Metro system over the next four to five years. The move is aimed at transforming urban transportation and enhancing commuter experience across the city.

"We are planning about 60 new-generation trains for Kolkata Metro in the coming 4-5 years. These trains will be inducted and Kolkata Metro Rail will get a totally new generation of trains," Vaishnaw said.

Highlighting the Centre's commitment to strengthening public transport infrastructure, the minister noted that significant efforts have been made to improve mobility in Kolkata. He expressed confidence that ongoing and upcoming metro projects would further ease congestion and improve connectivity.

"To improve mobility in Kolkata city, a lot of efforts have been made. As the projects advance, mobility in Kolkata city will advance too," he added.

The planned induction of modern metro trains is expected to enhance passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and service reliability while supporting the rapid expansion of the city's metro corridors. Kolkata Metro, India's first metro railway system, continues to witness major infrastructure upgrades aimed at meeting the growing transportation needs of the metropolis.
