West Bengal to Get Record ₹1 Lakh Crore Railway Investment, Says CM Suvendu Adhikari
West Bengal is poised to witness a massive transformation in its railway infrastructure, with projects worth more than ₹1 lakh crore expected to be implemented across the state in the coming years.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made the announcement following a meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Speaking to the media, Adhikari said that the Railway Minister has assured him that the required funds are already available and that work on the ambitious railway development plans will begin immediately.
“Today, I am very happy to inform you that the outcome of this meeting is that there will be more than one lakh crores of work in the rail sector in West Bengal. Ashwini Vaishnaw has committed to me that the entire money is ready, one lakh crore rupees, and we will work on it immediately,” Adhikari stated.
The proposed investment is expected to strengthen rail connectivity, modernize infrastructure, improve passenger amenities, enhance freight movement, and support economic growth across West Bengal. The initiative aligns with the Central
Government's broader vision of upgrading railway networks and improving transportation efficiency nationwide.
While detailed project announcements are awaited, the planned investment is likely to cover new rail lines, station modernization, signaling upgrades, rolling stock enhancement, and connectivity improvements across urban and rural regions of the state.
The announcement comes amid a series of infrastructure initiatives being undertaken by Indian Railways to boost mobility, safety, and economic development through modern transport networks.
