Asian Games 2026: India’s Medal Momentum Surges
India continued its strong showing at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, adding a series of medals and producing commanding performances across shooting, weightlifting, soft tennis, badminton and hockey.
India adds medals across disciplines
Mirabai Chanu ended her long wait for an Asian Games medal by winning silver in the women's 49kg weightlifting event. She lifted a combined 198kg, giving India its first Asian Games weightlifting medal since 1998.
India also secured two bronze medals in skeet shooting. The women's team of Raiza Dhillon, Maheshwari Chauhan and Parinaaz Dhaliwal finished third, while Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Bhavtegh Singh Gill won bronze in the men's team event.
In soft tennis, Jay Meena created history by winning India's first-ever Asian Games medal in the sport, taking bronze in the men's singles event.
India's men's badminton team also secured bronze after a 1-3 semifinal defeat to China. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty registered India's lone victory in the tie.
Deepika powers hockey rout
India's women's hockey team produced one of the biggest scorelines of the Games, defeating Thailand 20-1 in Pool B.
Deepika Sehrawat was the standout performer, scoring nine goals, all from penalty corners, as India registered its third consecutive victory. Navneet Kaur added four goals to the emphatic win.
Momentum across multiple sports
India's campaign has also featured strong performances in boxing, wushu, squash, rowing, kabaddi and other disciplines, keeping the country's medal challenge active as competition continues.
The latest medal haul has underlined India's spread of strength across different sporting disciplines, with athletes continuing to compete for podium places throughout the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
