BJP Mahila Morcha Ahmedabad Protest Targets Congress Over JNU Case

The BJP Mahila Morcha Ahmedabad protest was held outside the Gujarat Congress headquarters, Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, in Paldi on Friday over sexual harassment allegations involving Congress MP and former JNU professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam.

Protest Outside Gujarat Congress Headquarters

The demonstration took place outside Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan in Ahmedabad’s Paldi area, with BJP Mahila Morcha workers raising the issue of alleged sexual harassment of female students.

The protest was directed at the Congress over Akoijam, who represents Inner Manipur in the Lok Sabha on a Congress ticket.

JNU Dismisses Angomcha Bimol Akoijam

Jawaharlal Nehru University dismissed Akoijam from university service after an internal inquiry into complaints made by 11 female students. The university said due process was followed before taking the decision.

Reports said the complaints included allegations of sexually suggestive remarks, inappropriate advances and conduct considered inconsistent with professional teacher-student boundaries.

Akoijam Rejects Allegations

Akoijam has rejected the proceedings against him and described the action as a “witch hunt”, maintaining that the allegations are false and politically motivated.

The allegations therefore remain contested, even though JNU has taken disciplinary action following its internal inquiry.

BJP Intensifies Protests

The BJP Mahila Morcha Ahmedabad protest is part of a wider political response, with BJP workers also holding demonstrations against Congress over the issue in other cities, including Delhi and Lucknow.

The BJP has questioned the Congress leadership’s response to the allegations and demanded accountability from the party.

Police Security Deployed in Ahmedabad

Police personnel were deployed outside the Gujarat Congress headquarters during the demonstration to maintain law and order and manage the gathering.

The protest adds a political dimension to a case that originated from complaints by students and disciplinary proceedings within JNU.
