Ravi Shankar Prasad Attacks Rahul Gandhi Over President Remarks
Ravi Shankar Prasad Rahul Gandhi remarks triggered a fresh political exchange on Saturday, with the BJP MP accusing the Leader of the Opposition of making incorrect claims about his meeting with President Droupadi Murmu.
Prasad said the BJP had repeatedly maintained that Rahul Gandhi did not show adequate respect for constitutional institutions and alleged that he had now used a meeting with the President to make what the BJP described as false claims.
The remarks came after Gandhi said President Murmu had not denied allegations raised by an INDIA bloc delegation during a meeting concerning the Election Commission and alleged electoral irregularities.
#WATCH | Delhi: BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad says, "BJP has repeatedly stated that Rahul Gandhi does not respect constitutional institutions; matters have now reached a point where he has used a meeting with the President as a basis for making false claims. It is highly unusual in this country for sources close to the President to explicitly state that the remarks made by the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) regarding the President are incorrect. Rahul Gandhi, your falsehoods have now been exposed even by sources close to the President..."

Prasad Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Claims
Speaking in Delhi, Prasad said it was highly unusual for sources close to the President to publicly contradict remarks attributed to a meeting with the Head of State.
He said:
“BJP has repeatedly stated that Rahul Gandhi does not respect constitutional institutions.”
Prasad further alleged that Gandhi’s account of the meeting had been contradicted by sources familiar with the President’s position.
Sources Say Rahul Gandhi’s Claims Were ‘Incorrect’
Reports citing sources said Rahul Gandhi’s claims regarding President Murmu’s response during the meeting were “incorrect” and that it was unfortunate that the President was being drawn into the political controversy.
The President’s office had not issued a detailed public statement setting out its own version of the meeting at the time of those reports.
Rahul Gandhi Had Raised Election-Related Allegations
The controversy followed a meeting between an INDIA bloc delegation and President Murmu, during which opposition leaders submitted a memorandum raising concerns about the Election Commission and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Gandhi later said he was surprised by the President’s response and claimed she had not denied the allegations presented by the delegation.
BJP Targets Congress Over Constitutional Institutions
Prasad used the episode to renew the BJP’s criticism of the Congress leader.
He accused Gandhi of repeatedly questioning institutions such as the Election Commission and said the latest controversy involving the President further demonstrated what he described as a pattern of political attacks on constitutional bodies.
The BJP and Congress have exchanged sharp allegations in recent days amid protests and disputes over voter-list revisions and the functioning of the Election Commission.
Political Row Continues
The Ravi Shankar Prasad Rahul Gandhi exchange adds another dimension to the ongoing confrontation between the ruling BJP and the opposition over electoral processes and constitutional institutions.
While the BJP has rejected Gandhi’s allegations and criticised his description of the presidential meeting, the opposition continues to press its demands concerning the Election Commission.
