BJP Manifesto Commitments Take Centre Stage in Bengal’s 100-Day Report
KT- Dr Anirban Ganguly

BJP Manifesto Commitments have emerged as a key focus of the West Bengal government’s first 100 days in office, according to political commentator Dr Anirban Ganguly. The BJP-led government, headed by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has presented its initial performance as an effort to implement promises made in its election manifesto, or Sankalp Patra.

The government has completed its first 100 days in office and released a 41-page publication titled ‘West Bengal Government: 100 Days of Sankalp and Success’. The document outlines the administration’s work across several sectors, including investment, development, social welfare, women’s welfare and border security.

Dr Ganguly said the government should continue working towards fulfilling the commitments made to voters during the Assembly elections.

“The people voted for the BJP with great hope and expectations. Fulfilling those expectations should be the government’s primary responsibility,” Dr Ganguly said.

100-Day Report Highlights Government Priorities

The government’s 100-day publication provides details of initiatives undertaken since it assumed office. According to the report, the administration has focused on attracting investment, expanding welfare measures and strengthening security along the state’s borders.

The publication also highlights government figures relating to investment proposals, welfare beneficiaries and financial assistance provided under various schemes.

Border security and alleged illegal infiltration have also been included among the key areas of focus. The report details measures taken by the government concerning the Border Security Force and the transfer of land for strengthening border infrastructure.

Focus on Investment and Development

The new administration has repeatedly emphasised industrial development and investment as important components of its governance agenda.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has held meetings with industrialists and business representatives as part of efforts to encourage fresh investment in West Bengal.

The government has indicated that economic growth, employment generation and infrastructure development will remain important priorities beyond the first 100 days.

Annapurna Yojana and Women’s Welfare
Women’s welfare is another major component highlighted in the government’s first 100-day report.

Under the proposed Annapurna Yojana, eligible women have been promised financial assistance of ₹3,000 per month, subject to prescribed eligibility conditions.

According to the government’s stated criteria, women between 25 and 60 years of age who meet the specified requirements may qualify for the scheme.

Conditions reportedly include not holding a permanent government job and not being income-tax payers.

The government has also highlighted free travel for women on state-run buses as another significant welfare measure.

The publication includes details of various social security initiatives as well as measures relating to dearness allowance, or DA.

BJP Manifesto Commitments and Corruption Allegations

The issue of alleged corruption under the previous Trinamool Congress government has also featured prominently in discussions surrounding the BJP’s electoral commitments.

Dr Ganguly said that the BJP’s Sankalp Patra had promised action on allegations of corruption, including the preparation of a white paper and investigations into alleged irregularities.

He said the new government was gradually moving forward in this direction.

Eminent educationist Pabitra Sarkar also called for allegations of corruption under the previous administration to be investigated and for appropriate action wherever wrongdoing is established.

Transparency as a Key Governance Priority
Dr Ganguly described transparency as an important principle of the BJP government and said that people expect an administration that is accountable and transparent.

He also praised Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for focusing on implementing the commitments outlined in the manifesto.

According to Ganguly, the government should continue setting measurable targets and review its performance every 100 days.

Dr Anirban Ganguly on the BJP’s Sankalp Patra
Dr Ganguly argued that the BJP’s manifesto was different in scope from political commitments made in West Bengal over previous decades.

He said the Sankalp Patra provided a detailed roadmap of the party’s proposed policies and that the government was attempting to implement those commitments systematically.

He further suggested that the administration should now prepare another set of development targets for the next 100 days.

Border Security Also Gets Prominence

The government’s 100-day publication gives considerable space to border security.

According to the report, the administration has taken steps concerning border infrastructure and land required by the BSF. Issues surrounding alleged illegal infiltration have also been included in the government’s account of its initial 100 days.

The emphasis on border management reflects the BJP government’s broader focus on national security and strengthening security infrastructure in West Bengal.

What Lies Ahead for the West Bengal Government?
Completion of the first 100 days marks only the beginning of the administration’s larger political and governance journey.

The key challenge now will be converting BJP Manifesto Commitments into long-term policies and measurable outcomes. Welfare schemes, industrial investment, employment generation, women’s safety, infrastructure development and border security are likely to remain important areas of focus.

At the same time, the government faces expectations from voters who supported its electoral agenda. Delivering benefits efficiently, maintaining transparency and ensuring that development reaches different sections of society will be crucial for assessing the administration’s performance beyond its initial 100 days.

Dr Ganguly said the government should continue working towards fulfilling its manifesto promises, while Pabitra Sarkar expressed hope that the administration would address issues ranging from women’s safety to broader development.

With the first 100 days now complete, the West Bengal government’s next phase will be closely watched as it seeks to turn its electoral promises into sustained governance and development outcomes.
